Mario Phillip Pia, age 97 of Trumbull, CT, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Griffin Hospital. Mario was born in Bridgeport, CT, son of the late Joseph and Lena (Gai) Pia. He grew up in Kennett Square,l Pennsylvania, the mushroom capital of the world. He graduated from Kennett Consolidated High School and immediately entered Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in New York. He was stationed as an engineer on Liberty ships during WWll.

Returning to Connecticut after the war, he began working for Marani Tile (later Marani Marble) becoming the owner in 1954. “Pop Pop” enjoyed playing his guitar, French Horn, tinkering around his home, and making wine in his wine cellar.

Survivors include his wife,Patricia Plumb Pia, his beloved children, Gary and his wife Michele of Stratford, Greg and his wife Rina of Trumbull: his cherished grandchildren, Christopher and Andrew Pia, Victoria Giordano and Angela Siegele: his great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Sophie Pia and Logan and Chase Siegele; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean (Guinta) Pia and brothers, Aldo and Bruno Pia.

Friends may call on Monday, October 24, 2022, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue, Stratford, CT with interment following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull.
